Michael Donovan Moore is a visual artist spotlighting the nonhuman animal as a way of confronting mankind’s complex history with otherness. He layers human and nonhuman realities to explore commodification, identity, and power in relationships. Inspired by the tension between fiction and reality often found in folktales, he constructs humorous, unsettling, and sometimes somber, representations of otherness. Across painting, drawing, and sculpture he uses color, perspective, and mundane objects to emphasize the role context plays in shaping a being’s socioeconomic value.
